Privacy Policy

The short version: Your homes, task history, documents, and appliance records stay on your device. Hearthling has no accounts, and we do not sell your information. A few features send limited information off your device, listed below.

What stays on your device

• Your homes, task setup answers and history, notes, documents, appliance records, and settings.
• The name you give your hearthling and the app's appearance setting.
• Notification schedules. Reminders and weather alerts are scheduled on your phone.

Deleting the app, or clearing its data, deletes this information. It is not backed up unless you export a backup file yourself.

What leaves your device

• Weather. To check the forecast for freeze and storm alerts, the app sends an approximate location for your ZIP code (latitude and longitude, rounded to about a mile) to the U.S. National Weather Service (api.weather.gov).
• AI assistant and cost estimates. When you ask your hearthling a question or request a local cost estimate, your message and relevant details, such as your ZIP code, your home's systems, and task status, are sent through our server to our AI provider (currently Anthropic) to generate a response. The AI assistant is available in the iPhone app only. We do not keep your messages or the replies on our server. Do not include sensitive personal information in your messages. • Usage limits. To enforce daily limits on AI questions and prevent abuse, our server keeps simple counters (how many questions were asked today) tied to a random identifier generated by the app on your device, to your anonymous subscription ID if you have Plus, and to your IP address. These counters do not contain your messages, and they reset daily.
• Links you tap. Product and video links open third-party sites such as Amazon and Google or YouTube, which have their own privacy practices. Amazon may use cookies to credit us for purchases you make after tapping an affiliate link.
• Subscriptions. If you subscribe to Hearthling Plus, purchases are handled by Apple and by our subscription provider, RevenueCat. They receive an anonymous app user ID and your purchase status, and we use that to tell whether Plus is active. We do not receive your payment details.
• Feedback. The feedback button opens your own email app. Nothing is sent unless you send the message, and it contains only what you choose to include.
• Our website. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and operations.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your personal information.
• We do not use advertising trackers in the app.
• We do not require an account.

Children

Hearthling is intended for adults (18 and over) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.

Your choices

You can turn off notifications and weather alerts in the app or in iPhone Settings, hide tasks you do not want, and delete all app data by deleting the app. [Add any region-specific rights, such as for California or the EU, as advised by counsel.]

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and, where required, tell you in the app.
